The QT interval as a sensor for rate-adaptive pacemakers was first mentioned in 1981. Initial testing showed that the QT interval shortened during exercise in patients with complete heart block and constant-rate ventricular pacemakers. A pacemaker capable of measuring and timing the evoked endocardial T wave was designed. Basically this pacemaker measures the stimulus to T wave interval.
