Zusammenfassung
Wer ein Gemeinwesen gut oder gar optimal gestalten oder auch nur seine Qualität beurteilen will, benötigt hierfür zuallererst Maßstäbe, soziale Werturteile, eine Ethik. Dieser simple Sachverhalt hat Nationalökonomen seit Adam Smith dazu veranlaßt, über die Wertebasis, auf der auch ihre Wissenschaft ruht, mit großem Ernst nachzudenken. Sie glaubten schließlich, das Terrain nicht mehr allein den Philosophen überlassen zu können und bezogen ethische Fragestellungen in ihr Fach mit ein, um das hauptsächlich tangierte ökonomische Gebiet, die Wohlfahrtstheorie, besser fundieren zu können. Wenn es auch keine Trennlinie zwischen ‘philosophischer Ethik’ und ‘ökonomischer Ethik’ gibt, so hat sich im Laufe der Zeit doch mehr und mehr die Tendenz herausgebildet, daß Nationalökonomen schärfer auf einfache, theoretisch faßbare Prinzipien abstellen als Philosophen, dafür aber nicht alle ethischen Ansätze verfolgen und auch nicht alle Facetten beachten.
