Abstract

In 1961, Kauzmann, Clough, and Tobias [1] presented a semi-empirical concept for the description of chirality observations on molecules. Their Ansatz consists of a sum of terms, each of which corresponds to an interaction of certain parts of the molecule. By symmetry arguments alone, one can conclude which interactions can contribute to the chirality phenomenon and which cannot Ruch and Schönhofer [2,3] supplied the Kauzmann model with the group theoretical foundation and so created the theory of chirality functions. It is, however, not well-known that the first set-up to a chirality function is due to Ugi [4, see also 5, 6].
