Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

Ossifying fibroma is a light-gray, hard tumor which expands and distorts the bone in which it is found. Radiographs reveal a uniform fine spongious structure containing spicules of radiopaque material and a smooth, distinct border (Figs. 285, 286). The tumor is usually located in the mandible or maxilla but can also be observed in caudal vertebrae and sometimes other parts of the vertebral column and long bones. The tumor usually occurs as a single lesion in one bone.
