Osteoma, Spontaneous and Virus-Induced, Mouse

Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

Large osteomas are seen at autopsy as yellowish-white hard nodules which project from the involved bone. The X-ray reveals a circum-scribed mass of dense bone with a sharp outline (Figs. 210, 211). Characteristic locations are the tabula interna of the skull, the diaphyses of the long bones, and the os ilium. The vertebral column and other bones may also be involved. Symmetric involvement of paired bones may occur in cases with numerous tumors per animal.
