Extracorporal Shock Wave Lithotripsy in Pacemaker Patients

The noninvasive treatment of nephrolithiasis and, more recently, cholelithiasis with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) has gained worldwide acceptance. Between the first successful treatment in 1980 and the end of 1986 were about 30,000 applications in the former Federal Republic of Germany and about 50,000 applications worldwide [1]. In 80% of ESWL interventions, no further surgical treatment has been required.
