Abstract
Cerebrovascular accidents are a common disease and the third leading cause of death in Japan. In 1986 we began topical intraarterial urokinase (UK) infusion therapy for cases of acute major stroke [2–4] and have now administered it to 50 patients, 27 males and 23 females, ranging in age from 44 to 85 years [1–4]. Obstructive lesions were located in the internal carotid artery (ICA) in 19 cases, the middle cerebral artery (MCA) in 20 cases, the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) in 1 case, and the basilar artery (BA) in 10 cases
