Abstract

A previously developed theory for the calculation of the effective dielectric response Є γ M of composites is further extended to the case of a composite with ellipsoidal inclusions in an otherwise homogeneous, isotropic matrix. An alternative derivation of the mean-field approximation is also presented and it is shown that depending on the choice of the two-particle distribution function different expressions for Є γ M are obtained. Results are presented for a system of metallic (Drude) inclusions in dispersionless gelatin.
