HRTEM of Decahedral Gold Particles

Abstract

Decahedral gold particles supported on carbon are analysed by high resolution TEM. Evidence is found that supports the existence of non-fcc structures in this type of particles. The existence of angles larger than 70.5 degrees for {111} planes supports a model based on a body centered orthorhombic structure. No gaps or dislocations were found between the building tetrahedra.
