Positive Muons as Probes in High-T c Superconductors

Part of the book series: Springer Proceedings in Physics ((SPPHY,volume 59))

Abstract

A short review on some recent muon spin rotation (µSR) investigations on high-T c superconductors and their related magnetically ordered parent compounds is presented. The possibilities and limitations of the µSR technique for studying the microscopic magnetic properties of these materials are briefly discussed. In the superconducting copper oxides, µSR provides relevant information on the microscopic magnetic flux distribution in the bulk of the sample, allowing a direct determination of the London penetration depth in the mixed state. In addition, µSR is a sensitive tool for investigating the magnetic phase diagram (interplay of magnetism and superconductivity) of high-T c systems.
