Abstract
The BEILSTEIN Information System supports two structure coding formats: The Structure Distribution Format (SDF), a list oriented connnection table and ROSDAL, a non-conventional, non-unique, but unambiguous line notation.
ROSDAL is mostly used for the transmission of structure queries and structure displays between the user and the BEILSTEIN file on DIALOG. The ROSDAL encoding methodology is very simple for any compound, thus it is quickly to learn and manually coding and decoding is quite simple. ROSDAL is suitable as interconversion format with other representations and the ASCII protocol allows an fast and error reduced data transmission.
