Abstract

As was stated in the previous chapter, a Hamiltonian system frequently possesses KAM sets, the larger the part of the phase space occupied by these KAM sets, the closer the Hamiltonian system is to an integrable one. KAM sets bear a Cantor-like nature: they consist of KAM tori joined in families, the frequency playing the role of the parameter and ranging over a Cantor set ℰ. There are an infinite number of holes and gaps which are to be removed from the phase space to obtain the set occupied by KAM tori.
