Abstract

Insulin-like growth factors (IGF) I and II are two peptides which have been isolated originally from a Cohn fraction of human serum [1]. The designation IGF has been proposed [2] to stress the fact that they showed mitogenic effects at concentrations in the nanomolar range in vitro, that they also exhibited insulin-like effects in adipose and muscle tissue and that their structure was homologous to that of (pro)insulin [3–5],
