Zusammenfassung
Gegenstand dieses Beitrags sind hochqualitative Visualisierungstechniken zur Darstellung komplexer Daten. Dabei wird zwischen konkreten und abstrakten Daten unterschieden. Konkrete Daten beschreiben visuell wahrnehmbare Gegenstände der Umwelt. Für konkrete Daten ist es naheliegend, den beschriebenen Gegenstand auch quasi real darzustellen, also Bilder zu generieren, die wie Fotos aussehen. Techniken hierfür sind Gegenstand der fotorealistischen Computergraphik. Fotorealismus wird erreicht, indem eine optische Simulation durchgeführt wird. Aus algorithmischer Sicht zeigt sich, daß die obengenannten Effekte auf Grundlage einer Operation, dem Strahlenschießen, realisierbar sind. Es wird eine Übersicht über die heute eingesetzten Bildsynthesetechniken gegeben und gezeigt, welche Rolle diese Operation dabei spielt. Abstrakte Daten zeichnen sich dadurch aus, daß sie keine real visuell erfaßbaren Gegenstände beschreiben. Für diesen Typ von Daten haben sich in unterschiedlichen Bereichen Darstellungsformen entwickelt, die die Visualisierung über eine Zuordnung von abstrakten Erscheinungen an konkret wahrnehmbare Erscheinungen leisten. Dadurch werden insbesondere die fotorealistischen Bildsynthesetechniken auch bei abstrakten Daten einsetzbar. Diese Zuordnung wird in Form eines hierarchischen relationalen Visualisierungsmodells systematisiert. Es wird gezeigt, wie auf dieser Grundlage unter Verwendung heutiger Hard- und Software-Technologien ein leistungsfähiges Visualisierungsystem aussehen kann.
