Flocculation in Static Mixer
Flocculation using different types of mechanical agitators has been carried out for a long time in wastewater treatment. The flocculation technique is complex. It is not just the knowledge of reaction time and rotational speed but also the knowledge of the turbulence which will occur when the water containing the floes passes through the openings on its way to the settling tanks. Good flocs created in the flocculation basins do sometimes in the final stage not have good sedimentation properties because the openings between the flocculation basin and the final sedimentation tank are too small. Such openings result in increased speed and thus destroy the floes. This not only concerns chemical flocs but also biological floes which leave the aeration tank for sedimentation.
