Summary
When posterior-chamber lenses were soaked for 5 min in a gentamycin solution (10 mg/ml) immediately before implantation, the initially high rate of postoperative endophthalmitis (8.1%) was significantly reduced to 1.2%. Gentamycin adheres well to the lens surface, as evidenced by the formation of inhibition zones in cultures of staphylococci.
