Abstract

The paper discusses the application of two different types of fixed interval Kalman smoothers to the problem of the Doppler centroid estimation for X-SAR. Although being theoretically completely equivalent, the different formulations of the smoothers will be shown to encounter different implementation problems and, if not implemented carefully, show considerable differences regarding the estimation accuracy. The fixed interval smoothers being considered are the fixed interval smoother based on Fraser’s two filter approach and the backward correcting smoother-filter due to Meditch.
