Abstract

It is demonstrated that the coupling between diffusion and macroscopic flow becomes important in various situations of polymer solutions. A phenomenological constitutive equation which describes this effect is proposed. As an application, two problems are discussed: (i) viscoelastic effect in the swelling process of polymer solutions, and (ii) concentration gradient in the rheometrical shear flow in parallel plate and cone-and-plate geometries.
