Cancer in Organ Transplant Recipients

Abstract

The increased incidence of cancer in organ allograft recipients is limited to certain malignancies (Penn 1974, 1980, 1987, 1988, 1989). In this chapter we shall consider renal tumors and skin cancers (including Kaposi’s sarcoma). To a large extent the information is based on data collected by the Cincinnati Transplant Tumor Registry (CTTR) up to May 1990, which involved 5086 types of tumors which developed in 4779 organ allograft recipients, including 4390 kidney, 210 heart, 74 liver, 61 bone marrow, 13 pancreas, 5 heart and lung, and 2 multiple upper abdominal organs recipients and 1 lung recipient. (Table 1).
