Zusammenfassung

Das maligne Melanom der Haut gehört zu den bösartigsten Tumoren des Menschen. In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat es in allen westlichen Industrienationen eine enorme Häufigkeitszunahme erfahren. In früheren Jahren wurde das maligne Melanom oft als unberechenbar bezeichnet. Diesen Ruf der Unberechenbarkeit erhielt der Tumor deshalb, weil früher weder eine Unterscheidung zwischen gutartigen Naevuszellnaevi und dem malignen Melanom sicher möglich war, noch innerhalb der malignen Melanome die prognostische Bedeutung verschiedener Stadien und Subtypen bekannt war.
