Policies to Support Innovation in Emilia-Romagna: Experiences, Prospects and Theoretical Aspects

  • Conference paper
Technological Change in a Spatial Context

Abstract

Regional policies for technological development are now a consolidated and growing reality in numerous European countries and in the USA. Despite the increasing range of experiences and of empirical research, theoretical reflection appears, nevertheless, to be insufficiently developed, both with regard to consolidated models of regional action, and with regard to the relationship between regional industrial policies and those of other institutional levels (National Governments, EEC, Provinces, Municipalities etc.). Theoretical studies should also be extended to cover the complexity of factors which interact more and more with regional policies, such as economic and financial processes at the international level and social, territorial and institutional dynamics The achievement of this complex goal requires intermediate steps aimed at building links between empirical studies and theoretical research.
