Nervous System Cross Reactivity Sequences

Abstract

Probe specificity is a major challenge in polymerase chain reaction research. Avoiding sequences that code for cross-reactive amino acid sequences can reduce unspecific binding of design nucleic acid probes. Analyzing both amino and nucleic acid sequences of recently identified receptors of T-cells mediating experimental allergic encephalitis, a model disease for multiple sclerosis, we found analogies between human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV) and myelin basic protein (MBP), as well as MBP and MBP-reactive lymphocytes. We present a synopsis of seven linear nucleic acid epitopes potentially associated with nervous system cross-recognition.
