Abstract

Incorrect biopsies, large hematomas, inadequate previous operations, infiltrating and/or ulcerating tumors, and necroses make extensive skin and soft tissue resections necessary in limb-salvaging procedures [7]. At the Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Vienna, 15 large bone and soft tissue tumor resections, requiring a soft tissue reconstruction, were performed on the lower limb and pelvis-sacrum area between 1984 and 1988. They were done in cooperation with the Department for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
