Abstract
The importance of South-South Cooperation has been for long recognized, both at a general philosophical level and in formal resolutions on the subject. Several reasons have been advanced for its promotion: for instance, the expansion of trade through mutual reduction of tariff barriers, as was done through the establishment of the Common Market in Europe; the appropriateness of the development experience of more advanced Third World countries to other less advanced ones; the complementarity of output and trade structures of the developing countries; the importance of learning from each other’s relevant experience; and the strengthening of the solidarity of the Third World, and the Non-Aligned countries.
