Abstract

Prolactin (PRL) is an important and phylogenetically ancient pituitary hormone that possesses a wide range of biological effects in various animal species, from fish to mammals (Nicoll 1974; Clarke and Bern 1980). It exerts endocrine effects which mimic those of other pituitary hormones and concern numerous body organs including brest, kidney, gut, adrenal gland, heart, and blood vessels.
