Abstract
A facies model is proposed for the slope of a submarine swell in the shallow marine epicontinental Muschelkalk sea. A belt of hardgrounds encrusted by Placunopsis is recognized between the center of the swell (oolithic “Kornstein”-facies, above normal wave base) and the “Tonplatten”-facies in the basin center. These hard-grounds acted as reference horizons, on which the background fauna became mixed and condensed, together with the post-event fauna, by storm events.
