Considering the Communications Options

  • Conference paper
Bridging the Information Gap

Summary

The present section refers to communications technologies and techniques supporting information systems. The papers address a wide spectrum of solutions and stress the importance of the use of appropriate technologies against the tendency towards the indiscriminate use of “state of the art” technologies which, in some cases, do not represent the most effective solutions.

The examples presented range from the distribution of printed materials for the dissemination of information, to the use of Packet-Radio and PACSAT systems for distribution of information in rural areas. A specific section is dedicated to the use of Packet Switched Data Networks for national and international networks. Particular importance is given to the adherence to standards through a paper on access of data-bases in OSI environments.
