Summary

This section deals with principles and design of information systems for SMEs. The various issues which must be considered in the design and maintenance phases of an information system arc listed and explained, and a development methodology is suggested.

Technical aspects of distributed architectures of data-bases together with questions related to the use of thesaurus-based data-bases and development of thesauri in Chinese are also addressed. A proposal for a global information system to support the “SPARK” Information Pilot System concludes the section.
