Zusammenfassung

Alle biologischen Systeme weisen eine zeitliche Organisation auf. Die Periodendauer rhythmischer Funktionen beim Menschen reicht von nur 10−3 s bis hin zu mehreren Jahren (Hildebrandt 1967). Viele dieser Rhythmen haben ihren Ursprung im menschlichen Organismus selbst und werden „endogene Rhythmen“ genannt. Die folgenden vier Frequenzen sind, wobei ihnen endogene Komponenten zugrunde liegen, zusätzlich mit periodischen Vorgängen in der Umwelt korreliert (Aschoff 1966): ca. 12 h (Gezeiten), ca. 24 h (Tageszeiten), ca. 29 Tage (Lunar-Periodik) und ca. 1 Jahr (Jahreszeiten).
