Zu den Parasomnien zählen Phänomene wie das Schlafwandeln (Somnambulismus), der Pavor nocturnus, die nächtliche Enuresis, Alpträume oder auch das Zähneknirschen (Bruxismus) im Schlaf. Wie aus dieser vorläufigen Aufzählung ersichtlich, handelt es sich dabei um eine heterogene Klasse von Störungen mit wahrscheinlich vielfältigen Ursachen.
