Abstract

The biosphere represents the interface between the atmosphere and lithosphere on land. It is, as it were, the zone within which the various forms of life occur. It extends vertically for a few dozen meters into the atmosphere (the tallest trees measuring about 100 m in height) and for a few meters into the ground, which is inhabited by animals and microorganisms.
