Abstract
Although, what characterizes Oxygen consumption (VO2) is that the measurements can be performed by a non invasive technique, on inspired and expired gases, it would be incomplete not to remind the reader that once oxygen is taken up by the lungs it will be carried by the blood to the mitochondria of each Single cell. Only in the cell and mainly in the mitochondria is O2 actually consumed. In the same way, carbon dioxide (VCO2) is produced at the cellular level and must come all the way to the lungs to be exhaled.
