Abstract

The influences between nutrition and respiration are mutual. This holds for the function of the respiratory system as well as for the structure of the lung. On one hand malnutrition can have a negative influence on respiration within a Short time, but on the other hand nutritional support can cause respiratory problems up to the full clinical picture of respiratory insufficiency. Very often this is almost neglected in clinical practice. This overview will point out some important problems of the relation between nutrition and respiration, mainly in regard to acute diseases.
