Abstract
Ischein haima, from the Greek, means to suppress blood. Ischaemic conditions in an extremity may imply anything from a slight claudication to an acute arrest of blood flow. Several expressions have been used and misused to describe a certain chronic limitation of the nutrition to an extremity, such as “Limb-threatening ischaemia”, “severe ischaemia”, “critical isehaemia” (Fig. 1).
