Outcome of Traumatic Peripheral Neuromas After Microsurgical Procedure

Abstract

The successful treatment of symptomatic neuroma belongs to one of the most difficult and controversial chapters in the neurosurgical therapy of peripheral nerve injuries. Since the early nineteenth century when neuromas were described for the first time by Oldier their pathophysiology and therapy have been intensively investigated. Therapeutic viewpoints and possibilities of treatment have changed and developed in recent decades, but as yet there exists no reliable, generally applicable method for the elimination of symptomatic neuromas.
