Abstract
On 1 January 1988 the International Earth Rotation Service (IERS) started operation replacing the International Polar Motion Service (IPMS) and the Earth rotation section of the Bureau International de l’Heure (BIH). Initially, it relies on three observing methods: Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR), and Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR).
