Abstract
‘Where there is no vision, the people perish’ (Proverbs 29:18). When inviting friends and colleagues to write for this volume, I also asked each one to provide some thoughts concerning the future of medical mycology and antifungal treatment. In spite of gentle reminders, the response has been poor; this fact could have several interpretations! From the limited feedback I have had and from enforced careful study of each chapter during editing, some things have, however, become clear. Fungal infections are not going away, and in spite of remarkable advances in treatment, entirely satisfactory drugs are not yet available.
