A Longitudinal Study of Social Maladjustment in Young Persons
1. The notion of social maladjustment has been accepted and is broadly used in the Polish criminology and psychopaedagogical practice. It was introduced into the official terminology of the Ministry of Education1) in 1950’s and taken into account in a criminological study for the first time by S. Batawia in that same period as one of the central research problems. It is a notion from the sphere of clinical criminology, focused on individuals, and concerning the relations between them and their social environment; it stresses the importance for the individual of his most immediate environment and the role it plays in the origin of his disturbed behavior.
