Abstract
One of the motivations for studying conformal field theory on a Riemann surface is to have a better understanding of the structure of quantum string theory. Recent research has revealed that there are deep connections between conformal field theory and number theory, which may have profound implications to string theory. The equivalence of bosons and fermions in two dimensions is such an example; there an addition theorem of theta-function plays an important role.
