Operations on the Extraocular Muscles

B. Indications, Surgical Techniques, Complications
  • W. Rüssmann

Abstract

The surgical correction of strabismus should lead to a stable and normal positioning and motility of the eyes. There should be a useful field of gaze with comfortable single binocular vision (see chapter VI. A 1)). For some patients it may be necessary to go beyond these minimal requirements, e.g. for crane operators or for patients with ankylosing spondylarthritis. If it should be impossible to restore normal motility with an adequate field of single binocular vision, this goal should at least be achieved for the central and lower portions of the field.
