Abstract

Two principally different procedures are available for investigating exocrine pancreatic function (Table 1):

  1. 1.

    Direct pancreatic function tests, measuring the contents of pancreatic secretion (bicarbonate and enzymes)

  2. 2.

    Indirect pancreatic function tests, whereby diminished digestive capability signifies exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
