Calcium-Antagonisten verlangsamen den Einstrom von Ca2+-Ionen durch die spannungsabhängigen Ca2+-Kanäle (Kap. 4–6). Andere Verbindungen, wie einige Analoga des Nifedipin (Abb. 9.1), zeigen den entgegengesetzten Effekt, entsprechend wurden sie bekannt als „Calcium-Agonisten“oder „Calciumkanal-Agonisten“ (Towart u. Schramm 1984; Hattorf et al. 1986).
