Lasers in Dermatology

Abstract

The Nd:YAG laser is a solid state laser with a crystal of Yttrium Aluminium Garnet dotated with small amounts of Neodymium as active laser medium. The main wavelength of the types used in medicine is 1064 nm (1; 2; 3). Pulsed Nd:YAG lasers have an output of up to 1000 watts, they are used mainly in the industry. The types commonly used in medicine, operated in continuous wave (cw) mode of action achieve about 120 watts, however.
