Zusammenfassung
Die heutige antipsychotische Therapie ist gekennzeichnet durch eine vergleichsweise kurze stationäre Behandlung, gefolgt von einer ambulanten Nachsorge. Die chronische Schizophrenie ist im allgemeinen eine rezidivierende Erkrankung, doch dauert in vielen Fällen auch die akut psychotische Phase relativ lange an. Daraus ergibt sich das Risiko, daß solche Patienten nach der Entlassung einen Rückfall erleiden, wenn sie ihre antipsychotische Medikation nicht fortführen. Dies wiederum macht den Wunsch verständlich, auch in der akuten oder subakuten Phase der Psychose die Einhaltung der medikamentösen Therapie sicherzustellen, etwa durch Injektion einer Depotform.
