Abstract
The Gamma-Ray Observatory GRO is one of”The Great Observatories” which presently are in the phase of development and planning in the USA. The Hubble Space Telescope and GRO, both are in the final phase of development and hopefully will have been launched by 1990 by the Space Shuttle. The other two observatories (The Advanced X-Ray Astrophysics Facility: AXAF, and the Space Infrared Telescope Facility: SIRTF) both are still in the planning phase. The four Great Observatories will cover the electromagnetic spectrum from infrared to gamma-ray energies and will lead to an enormous progress in space astronomy.
