Abstract
Unification-based grammar formalism play an increasingly important role in the recent developments in computational linguistics. Lexical Functional Grammar, Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar, and Categorial Unification Grammar are examples of linguistic frameworks that rely on the unification of complex attribute-value-structures as a common basic notion. The S tuttgart T ype U nification F ormalism (STUF) is a flexible graph-unification formalism, which allows the linguist to encode and ran the analyses of these and other theories on a computer. In this paper major parts of STUF are introduced and its application to CUG, which is the theory of choice in the LILOG project, is shown.
