Abstract
So far theoretical extensions of the adaptive hypotheses of sociobiology have been considered. These extensions have been based on suitable parametrisations of the governing equations of mathematical population genetics and population dynamics. A unifying theoretical approach to both adaptive and non-adaptive evolution has become possible this way, and, more specifically, some long-term evolutionary effects have become linked to the mathematical concepts of evolutionary stability and instability in a systematic fashion.
