Abstract
While model-based diagnosis has a lot of advantages like flexibility and declarativeness ([dKW87], [Rei87]) there are also some disadvantages. One of these is the lack of efficiency which we have discussed in a previous paper. In [FN89] we described an algorithm for compiling the implicit diagnosis knowledge of a model-based diagnosis system into efficient decision tree format. Another possibility is to optimize the inference engine itself ([FdK88], [DdK88]).
