Zusammenfassung
Das Karzinom der Zervix uteri kann geheilt werden, wenn es in einem frühen Stadium erkannt und behandelt wird. Obwohl die Überlebensraten von Patientinnen in einem frühen Stadium (I/IIa) hoch sind, haben die Behandlungsergebnisse während der vergangenen 20 Jahre stagniert. Trotz der scheinbar günstigen Prognose in einer immer jüngeren Patientenpopulation treten bei ca. 20–25% der Frauen, welche in einem frühen Stadium behandelt werden, Rezidive innerhalb der ersten 5 Jahre nach der primären Therapie auf. Die Prognose bei Frauen mit Rezidiv ist schlecht, weniger als 15% überleben ein Jahr nach Diagnose des Rezidivs [1]. Von daher können Operation und Strahlentherapie, die beiden traditionellen Ecksteine in der Behandlung der frühen Stadien, nicht als optimales therapeutisches Konzept verstanden werden. Da die einzige realistische Chance, Heilung zu erreichen, in der Primärbehandlung liegt, müssen wir neue therapeutische Ansätze bei dieser Erkrankung erforschen.
