Selection, Collection, Packing, Storage, Transport, and Description of the Samples

  • Chapter
Absolute Age Determination

Abstract

Despite the great differences between the numerous methods of physical and chemical age determination and the large variety of datable materials, general recommendations can be made on the selection, collection, packing, storage, transport, and description of the samples. These recommendations are especially important for geologically young samples (“soft-rock dating”). Further recommendations are given in the chapters for the individual methods.
